Wet, no I mean REALLY wet boxes!

So what do you do, exactly, when you open up the
letterbox [Gladware, sigh] and then pour out two
inches of water and the logbook is nearly a gelatinous
pile of goo which you couldn't possibly do anything to
without it totally disintegrating? Besides backing
away slowly and spending the rest of the afternoon
trying to get the moldy rotten stench off of your
fingers...

Big sigh.

And yes, of course, we contacted the placer when we
got home.

Stamp in on an index card that you happen to be carrying with you, leave it in the box (sealed in a baggie so it doesn't decompose along with the rest of the log), and get an impression from the box stamp, which hopefully hasn't completely fallen apart. And then disinfect & deodorize (yourself, not the box =)!

Which reminds me, I probably need to make a new log for Zenith. Again. =(

You stamp the box's stamp in your logbook and call it a Find.

That is, if you brought latex (or better yet, dishwashing) gloves with
you.

I've been carrying 1 dishwashing glove with me since I began. I've used it
a few times.

Okay, so we add to the backpack latex gloves, index cards, extra
baggies, disinfectant, and hand sanitizer along with all the other
paraphernalia we're already carrying and pretty soon I'm going to feel
like a traveling Walmart, lol.

I usually do the same but I dry out the box and contents as much as possible and try to put all wet items in closed baggies to try to keep the box dry.

Those little bottles of hand santizier are great for boxing! I have also actually cut a slit in the bottom of boxes that I plant. Horse Trader told me they don't sweat then.
